Job ExemptYes General Job SummaryThis job is responsible for strategic planning, direction and overall accountability for the Public Relations department. Will independently make decisions that could seriously affect the overall division and/or Ochsner Health System's financial objectives, performance objectives, and strategic results. Works with the ASST Vice President of Communications & Public Relations to develop budget for the department and is accountable for tracking expenses as incurred. This job is responsible for strategic planning and direction of all external and media-specific communications for all Ochsner Health System regions and entities, and related ventures, affiliations and partnerships to optimize positive knowledge, awareness, and understanding of Ochsner's services, products, capabilities, assets and positions. Direct all aspects of external communication and relationships with the local, regional, national and industry media including proactive, reactive and crisis communications for the system. Optimizes results through the delivery and measurement of consistent messaging across multiple platforms and tactics. Direct or supervise public relations staff to achieve communications goals and targets. Optimize the Ochsner brand equity and position Ochsner, Ochsner Physicians, and Ochsner employees as Industry Thought Leaders. Work collaboratively with the Marketing, Digital and Social Media staff to achieve stated department goals including market share growth, volume growth and other growth metrics. Interfaces regularly with executive team to develop communications for use across a broad platform including interviews, events and industry speaking engagements. Education Required - Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or related fieldWork ExperienceRequired - 10 years of public relations or media relations experience including 3 years in a management role. .Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)Must have computer skills and be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to the role.Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.Good relationship building, organizational, time management, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.Professional attitude and ability to relate to executive management, professionals and business and community leaders.Exhibits excellent leadership and self-direction, good judgment in handling difficult situations.Job DutiesDevelop integrated external communications strategies for the system, key operating divisions, regions, service lines, ancillary services and related ventures.Direct or supervise public relations staff to set and achieve goals and targets in a timely manner to support the operating goals of the organization through communication of key external messages. Own and continually assess Ochsner's position nationally and in key regional markets and develop strategies to increase relationships and share of positive voice in areas where growth is a key to achieving system priorities.Interfaces regularly with executive team and physician leadership to develop communications strategies to support media relations efforts, awareness and reputation building, speaking engagements and the success of external messaging using a variety of channels, platforms and technologies – including the support of system events. Maintain fiscally sound operations and measurable results including management of the public relations budget, as well as ongoing analysis of department operating and performance statistics.
