The Idaho Department of Commerce is seeking an individual with an interest in providing public relations with a proven ability to communicate with the public in all facets of information dissemination to join its dynamic team of professionals. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Information preparation and dissemination. Typical responsibilities: Writesu00a0and distributes news releases covering appointments, programs, meetings, and scheduled events; Develops and maintains a variety of media contacts; Drafts responses, prepare data and provides information to media and the public; Makes public presentations and represents the department at meetings and conferences; Researches background data and interviews sources to write for newsletters; Produces or edits informational and educational material such as newsletters, brochures, blog posts and other publications; May oversee the work of vendors such as agency partners, printers, content developers and photographers; Oversees department social media accounts and activity; Arranges for department personnel to make media appearances; Writes speeches and program scripts; Assists in organizing and promoting public forums, arranges publicity and may arrange advertising; Coordinate website design, maintenance and updating; May serve as media spokesperson. Typical responsibilities: Provides input for department information and public-relations goals and priorities; May propose information budget to management; May report on legislative activity affecting the department; May monitor and evaluate information and public relations effort for value and cost-effectiveness; May advise and train department staff regarding communication issues and methods; May draft department position statements; Develops displays, exhibits, and educational programs; Adheres to department and media time frames to ensure deadlines are met. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: communicating with the public in written and verbal formats; effective use of social media for business purposes; writing news releases or preparing general interest news for publication or broadcast; researching, composing, editing, and laying out informational material; interpreting and translating technical or specialized material into information usable by the public; and producing or editing informational material using electronic word processing.u00a0 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - not mandatory: Bachelor's degree and 2-5 years professional experience in Communications or a closely related field Audiovisual production techniques to include video productions and still photography Basic ability in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and/or InDesign as well as HTML and CSS.
