The Enrollment Specialist—Traditional Recruitment (ESTR) employee must be a naturally persuasive, competitive and enthusiastic individual that is highly self-motivated and outgoing. The ESTR will exercise superior communication, presentation, coordination, organization and human relations skills within a results-driven, sales-like set of expectations. Prospect identification, cultivation, management, and matriculation are primary responsibilities of this position and will require comfort with frequent and extensive regional travel (HS visits, college/career fairs, community events, etc.), non-standard and varied working hours; small and large group presentations, consistent phone outreach, and regular communication via both traditional (letters, notes, postcards) and electronic (email, text, social media, etc.) methods. The ESTR also shares a common set of responsibilities within the internal Enrollment Services team that includes: admissions, advising, and registration appointments with both prospective and current students; on and off-campus event facilitation; campus tours; bulk mailings; classroom visits; telemarketing; and any other recruitment, enrollment or retention related duties as assigned.
This position is a full-time H.E.A. Professional Services position (261-day contract). Starting salary for the position is $35,000 annually. Benefits include single ($250 deductible) medical, dental & vision insurance, $50,000 life insurance, long-term disability, paid sick leave, 15 days vacation and participation in IPERS or TIAA-CREF retirement plan.
The term of employment is as per Bargaining Agreement between SCC Board of Trustees and the SCCHEA, employment contract, and relevant policies of the Board of Trustees and SCC.
Essential Duties Summary
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Learn and embrace the comprehensive community college philosophy and related Iowa Code.
Learn, apply and role-model all SCC policies and procedures, including but not limited to the strategic goals and expectations of accountability within the Student Services Division and Enrollment Services (ES) Department.
Assist with the development and implementation of strategies to increase awareness of and enrollments for all SCC academic programs.
Keep current on all SCC academic curriculums. Have a full understanding of course content, admissions and/or placement standards, course prerequisites, program and degree requirements, and course schedules, and assist students with the same.
Keep current on all transfer policies at SCC and other institutions as necessary. Maintain working knowledge of course equivalents and general education and degree requirements at various transfer institutions.
Develop a fluent understanding of: all online course offerings, CANVAS learning management system, policies and procedures of the ICCOC.
Process student registrations and course schedule changes on the administrative student registration system.
Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration concerning curriculum and student issues.
Develop an understanding of various student support services to communicate and/or assist with connecting students with appropriate staff and departments for assistance.
Coordinate, facilitate, and/or assist with various enrollment services activities as directed including appointments, tours, student communication, phone calls, and data collection/reporting.
Assist with creation and distribution of information to prospective, applied, enrolled, and former students.
Assist with the development and implementation of strategies to increase the diversity and retention of our student population.
Work closely with and assist the Registrar and Financial Aid Offices with various duties as directed.
Attend meetings/workshops, conferences related to Enrollment Services processes.
Other duties as assigned.
Specific Leadership Responsibilities:
Enrollment Services operates with a team of Enrollment Specialists all of whom have the same general responsibilities listed above along with more specific assignments such as the following functions:
A. Coordination and facilitation of recruitment and admission programs and processes specific to traditional student populations including high school visits, college/career fairs, campus visit days, special events, counselor meetings, and development of new initiatives to increase prospects, applications and matriculation of students.
B. Coordination of communication to students enrolled in online courses. Creation and distribution of messages that assist students with beginning course enrollments, understanding functions of the CANVAS learning management system, and overcoming online learning challenges to complete courses. Serve as primary contact for the ICCOC Student Services group.
C. Coordination of CTHE faculty visits, career days, and other program exploration opportunities. Establish and maintain relationships with vocational directors, instructors, and/or respective club sponsors at all area high schools and volunteer to make presentations to classes and clubs regarding SCC educational opportunities. Look for new opportunities and initiatives to increase awareness and enrollments in SCC CTHE programs.
D. Assist with the enrollment of concurrent students including verification of rosters, collecting applications, reviewing placement scores and any required pre-requisites, class visits and any communication.
E. Coordination of recruitment and admission programs and processes specific to non-traditional learners (i.e. students transitioning from non-credit to credit; students transitioning from AEL programming, returning adults, veterans, etc.).
• Bachelor’s Degree required; Public Speaking, Marketing/Sales, Communications, Public Relations, degree preferred.
SCC alumnus preferred.
Two (2) years experience in higher educational setting preferred.
Experience in admissions, advising, sales/promotions, marketing, public affairs or student services/student life preferred.
Ability to appreciate and assist students at all levels of academic, social, and personal development.
Demonstrated understanding, ability, and desire for working with people from diverse backgrounds including all ages, socio-economic status, educational levels, variety of language, and cultural backgrounds.
Knowledge of or ability to develop in-depth familiarity with all SCC academic and extracurricular programs, various transfer articulations and partnership programs between SCC and other colleges/universities, and the ability to communicate the value of such to prospective and current students.
Superior communication, presentation, and human relations skills (listening, speaking, and writing) are required.
Proficiency with multiple software and social media platforms including but not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point), Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Snap Chat.
Must be a good listener, be non-judgmental and well-adjusted with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality and form trusting relationships with others.
Demonstrated ability to maintain an approachable, accessible, positive and professional demeanor, and have temperament to provide exceptional customer service in high pressure situations.

Availability to work varied hours and evenings/weekends as directed.
Ability to climb stairs and lift and maneuver heavy boxes up to 50 lbs.
Valid driver’s license and exceptional driving record.
