Job Description:

The Senior Director, Corporate Communications leads the strategy and execution of the company’s overall corporate reputation and PR programs to foster and enhance the public profile of Alkermes with a range of stakeholders. This individual is directly responsible for the development and execution of integrated communications programs that increase awareness and understanding of Alkermes as a global biopharma company, its mission and vision, business priorities and achievements, R&D portfolio and employer profile. The Senior Director, Corporate Communications is accountable for preparing and activating issues management strategies to protect the reputation of our company and ensure that communication strategies align with Alkermes’ core objectives. This position reports to the Vice President of Public Affairs.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Lead corporate public relations and communications efforts for the company including media relations.Develop, oversee and execute strategic and measurable corporate communications and public relations programs that align with business strategies and goals and complement other endeavors pursued by the company; provide strategic counsel and comprehensive support to Alkermes executives regarding corporate reputation strategies as well as media and speaking opportunities; oversee development of thought leadership programs focused on elevating visibility for Alkermes’ executives and the Company’s commitment to biotech, R&D and as an employer.

Directly lead and manage corporate PR and communications programs, including creation of an annual plan and execution of such plan; maintain in-depth knowledge of the company’s current business and R&D portfolio including business goals, strategies and market challenges; create and manage a range of communication materials (press releases, key message and Q&A documents, media pitches and briefing materials) and related content for use by spokespeople and with media/investor audiences; partner with senior executives and other leaders to protect the reputation of company, leading company preparation and response around reputational issues.

Work collaboratively and cross-functionally within and beyond Public Affairs to integrate and align messaging and strategies with efforts led by R&D, Business Development, Investor Relations, Government Affairs, Patient Engagement, Medical Affairs and others; partner with Internal Communications to integrate relevant business updates into employee engagement strategies; lead a coordinated effort to identify, create and publish dynamic content across a range of communication channels to reach various stakeholder groups and audiences.

Serve as lead company spokesperson for corporate and R&D topics; establish strong relationships with influential media that reach key stakeholders including investors, local communities, government stakeholders, prospective employees and others; keep company executives and cross-functional partners informed of relevant media trends and coverage that could impact business performance and/or Alkermes’ reputation; monitor and measure performance indicators for programs and initiatives; provide regular reports on progress and impact.

Lead and develop the Corporate Communications team, driving performance and growth for individuals and the team as a whole; serve as a member of the Public Affairs leadership team, actively contributing to strategic planning, talent management, problem solving and marking success.

Lead and evolve the company’s core assets for corporate communications, such as corporate branding programs and initiatives, including the Alkermes visual identity, narrative and corporate messaging; lead and evolve strategy for corporate digital and social channels, including the company websites, social media platforms and new media as they emerge.

Establish and evolve processes and standards to guide the work of corporate communications, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry regulations.

Manage budget and other allocated resources; monitor expenditures and ensure overall spend is within approved allocations; identify, select and manage agency partners and other vendors to support various communications needs.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree, journalism or communications-related discipline preferred

At least 12 years of healthcare public relations experience, with at least 3 years in a corporate (pharma or biotech) setting

Deep experience in corporate communications, crisis and issues management

Expertise in media relations, both proactive and reactive, with established relationships that will be relevant for Alkermes

Able to build and maintain close, collaborative relationships with all levels of the organization to ensure alignment and integration of strategies, tactics and content

Adept at working with executive-level leaders; able to balance c-suite direction and requests with sound, strong, experience-based counsel

Deadline-driven and accustomed to juggling multiple priorities with a sense of urgency

Possesses sound judgment, critical thinking and decision-making skills

Strong people leader who recognizes employee strengths and areas for improvement and provides thoughtful feedback, helping direct reports and others advance their careers

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Detail-oriented, with a strong ability to organize and analyze

Collaborative, self-directed team player
