We are hiring a Scientific Communications Consultant to join the Structural Heart Team to assist in the acquisition, assimilation, and dissemination of clinical evidence in the rapidly evolving area of transcatheter heart valve therapies. The goal of the Scientific Communications Team is to evaluate the evidence landscape to tell a clinical story grounded in evidence, with the intent of building physician confidence in our therapy knowledge and in our products in order to improve physician practice and patient care. The team supports both surgical and the transcatheter valve therapies â€“ aortic, mitral, tricuspid, congenital - to have a comprehensive understanding of the latest scientific evidence on product safety and efficacy and clinical best practices.
This role will be critical in monitoring, analyzing and communicating scientific literature and Congress presentations, developing communications for both internal teams and external physician customers. This individual will partner closely with Health Care Professionals (HCPs), Medical Education, Marketing, Physician Relations, Public Relations and Clinical Research teams to best leverage all heart valve clinical evidence.
A Day in the Life
Clinical Evidence Acquisition:
â€¢Work with team to continuously monitor, download, and archive published scientific literature and congress presentations in the area of heart valves
â€¢Identify important heart valve-related sessions at all interventional and surgical cardiology conferences and meetings (12 meetings per year)
â€¢Attend and participate at scientific conferences to be up to date on the latest data releases
â€¢Support the global Medtronic team in performing literature searches as requested
Clinical Evidence Assimilation:
â€¢Critically review manuscripts and presentations when published/presented and integrate new findings into existing knowledge base and communicate key findings to marketing and public relations
â€¢Develop/update/create presentations for use in physician podium presentations at major cardiology and cardiac surgery congresses
Clinical Evidence Dissemination:
â€¢Lead cross-functional literature review meetings to critically evaluate clinical publications and select key articles for dissemination to the broader HVT team
â€¢Draft and distribute literature updates to a global team of internal HVT team stakeholders, with the goal of keeping the team current on these rapidly evolving therapies
â€¢Immediately upon publication, send key clinical articles to HVT team
â€¢Develop and maintain clinical evidence communication tool/s that can be fully accessed by the global HVT team, allowing team members to search for key clinical evidence related to their day-to-day activities
â€¢Support physician requests for podium slides, published manuscripts, and presentations
â€¢Participate with the Scientific Communications Team on congress session coverage and assimilation of new data (team meetings, development of session summaries)
â€¢Partner with marketing, medical education, and clinical teams to educate on the latest clinical evidence so that all functions are aligned on the key clinical data
â€¢Keep abreast of trends, leading developments and technology (implement as appropriate)
â€¢Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders in marketing, clinical evidence, field trails
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
â€¢10 years experience in a role involving creating professional podiumpresentations for scientific meetings (8 years with Masters)
â€¢Experience in scientific communication and literature review searches
â€¢Microsoft Office Suite
Nice to Have
â€¢Experience with cardiac anatomy, physiology, and/or disease states, specificallycoronary and peripheral vascular treatments, valve dysfunction, and cardiacsurgery
â€¢Publication experience in the cardiovascular disease space
â€¢Experience in communication of clinical trial data to technical and non-technical audiences
