Job Description SummaryEngineering Manager will have departmental leadership responsibility for planning, coordinating, and managing technical initiatives. Responsible for the sustained operation, engineering and technology aspects of manufacturing equipment and processes required to meet the department’s safety, quality, efficiency, production volume and cost objectives. Reports directly to the Senior Engineering Manager to support operation of manufacturing systems and automation equipment to meet goals of the plant and business.Job DescriptionManages a team of engineers and technicians charged with maintenance, optimization, and upgrade of existing manufacturing equipment to achieve plant’s manufacturing goals. Participates in the purchase and install, start-up and validation of new equipment and/or processes as required to meet product specifications, requirements and manufacturing expectations.Responsible for scheduled and un-scheduled maintenance for existing and new manufacturing equipment and processes in a manufacturing department. Design modification and improvement of production machinery and equipment to improve safety, quality and cost. Troubleshoot and solve technical problems pertaining to production machinery, equipment and processes.Responsible for Preventive Maintenance compliance, effectiveness and budget. Responsible for Spare Parts availability and budget.Provides assistance in all phases of Budget and Standards preparation (Labor, Spare Parts, etc.)Designs, recommends and implements cost reduction projects within the scope of annual plant targeted goals.Maintains a 3 to 5 year vision for capital planning and a reaction strategy for addressing ongoing obsolescence managementAssesses resource skill requirements, labor loading, prioritization of work and time allocation for sustaining engineering activities and projects within a manufacturing department. Drives or participates in robustness evaluation and process/equipment improvements for new manufacturing and technology processes.Establishes and drives effective project engineering management practices to plan and execute projects. Coaches team members in successful integration of structured development processes, engineering and risk management methods to insure a project's technical and business success. Maintains active involvement in all major projects for the manufacturing plant. Capable of taking on and completing sustaining engineering projects as well as overseeing the work of team.Must be familiar with GMP's, ISO requirements, the IVD Directive, the CE Mark, Six Sigma and LEAN principles. Should have a working knowledge for validation of manufacturing processes within the IVD or pharmaceutical industries. Using BD's validation methodology, works with QMRC to plan and validate process and equipment changes or start-up.Responsible in selection, training, and coaching the engineering and technician staff. Leads overall associate engagement strategies with supervisors. All functional activities will be performed in accordance with Plant Operating Procedures, GPDS guidelines, and all applicable BDDS Quality Procedures.BS degree in Engineering, Biological Sciences or Business is required. Advanced technical (MS or PhD) and/or business management degree (MBA) is preferred.Must have a minimum of three (3) years leadership experience.Broad knowledge of high performance manufacturing, FDA regulatory requirements, validation concepts and techniques, standard cost accounting preferred.Experience with factory automation equipment design, operation, and maintenance, preferably in a GMP regulated manufacturing environment.Experience with lean manufacturing, six sigma, and category management is desirable along with MRP and production order transaction maintenance experience using SAP.Knowledge and experience with the BD Quality system or equivalent is preferred.Must demonstrate excellent communication skills, fluency in interpreting and modeling the BD values, ability to seek input from others, ability to relinquish control, and knowledge of current and anticipated customer needs.Primary Work LocationUSA MD - BaltimoreAdditional LocationsWork Shift
