Technical Communications Manager - Temporary

The Technical Communications Manager (Manager) works with Information Technology Services (ITS) Directors and teams to plan, develop, coordinate and execute a communications strategy for primarily the installation of a new student information systems and secondarily some ITS technology-related projects. The Manager oversees the enhancement and expansion of communications to campus and other constituents, particularly ITS' web-based, email and print communications. The Manager may also serve as a liaison to faculty, staff, and students as projects are conceived, planned, and deployed. This position reports to the Director of IT Project Management.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Work with ITS staff and constituents with the campus and across The Claremont Colleges to assess needs and resources and to gather input on existing and/or emerging technologies for the student information systems.
Utilize assessment and research best practices to develop recommendations for future ITS projects, which include implementation and maintenance requirements.
Collaborate in cross-functional teams comprised of ITS staff, The Claremont Colleges, and/or user constituents to assist in moving the student information system and other projects forward by ensuring effective communications at all levels throughout the process.
Develop schedules, assign and monitor tasks, and oversee quality assurance phases to ensure communications are on time and produce high-quality results in accordance with stated goals.
Maintain customer relations to assess service and support and to make recommendations as needed for enhancements.
Provide project reports to campus and consortia constituents and ensure that details are communicated appropriately (e.g. Project Status and Portfolio Reports).
Develop and implement a general communications strategy for the student information system which will allow ITS to interact with students, faculty, and staff on a range of technology topics in multiple formats.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Degree in Communications, Digital Communications, Technical Writing, English Literature, Marketing, or Public Relations is highly desired. Two to four years of technology-related communication is required. Experience that involved communications and provided analysis services to technology client services in a higher education or professional services setting preferred. Requires business analysis experience in a team-based cross-functional environment. Project management experience, including demonstrated ability to present and lead functional experts and executives through complex presentations. Publishing or writing certifications or licenses is highly desired. Demonstrated success in technical communications, consensus building, and problem solving. Ability to organize and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences at various levels within the organization.
The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required. Travel will be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.
ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS:
Full-time, exempt. This is a temporary position with an end date of August 31, 2020. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
