National Vice President of Development & Communications
STRIVE is a leading national nonprofit organization focused on creating opportunity and breaking cycles of poverty for men and women in low-income communities across the United States. Our proven employment model helps individuals permanently lift themselves and their families out of poverty through intensive attitudinal and skills training programs that lead to good careers and mobility. Based in New York City, STRIVE operates a flagship Harlem training center and through an affiliate network of 20 independently-operated nonprofit organizations in cities nationally. As STRIVE embarks on a new phase of growth, the National Vice President of Development & Communications will report to STRIVE's President & CEO and serve as a key member of STRIVE's leadership team. In partnership with the President & CEO, this position will set strategy and lead implementation for STRIVE's overall development and marketing/ communications efforts both in New York City and nationally. As such, this position will collaborate closely with senior leaders within the STRIVE affiliate network and with leading external funders and stakeholders. Some travel will be required.
STRIVE's Development team includes five full-time professionals, as well as a network of development and communications professionals within STRIVE affiliate organizations.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as a key member of STRIVE's executive leadership team to lead and manage the organization's fundraising and communications efforts.
Actively work with the CEO, Board of Directors and senior staff to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy and annual plan to include corporate, foundation, government and individual donors.
Actively work with the CEO, Board of Directors and senior staff to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing/communications strategy and an annual marketing plan to include marketing materials, website, social media, newsletters, public relations and branding.
Lead, motivate and supervise a team of employees in achieving the organization's fundraising and marketing goals.
Develop and manage overall development and marketing budgets, in partnership with the CFO.
Bachelor's Degree required; advanced degree preferred
Preferred 7 years experience in nonprofit development and communications
Proven track record of achieving annual revenue goals
Experience with national funders and/or fundraising for a national organization preferred
Exceptional communications skills; ability to articulate STRIVE's mission, with proven ability to write and speak effectively and persuasively
Demonstrated capacity and experience in setting an overall marketing plan, including planning, writing, editing and producing online and print content, press releases, reports and marketing materials
Proven success in leading donor cultivation efforts and major gift campaigns
Collaborative, flexible and innovative leadership style, well-suited to leadership in an entrepreneurial, collegial setting
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Energetic, positive outlook
