The Mohawk Valley Health System in Utica, NY, is seeking an experienced communications and marketing professional to join our executive leadership team as the Vice President, Communications and Marketing. The successful candidate must have a proven background in the planning, development, implementation and successful monitoring of marketing, communications, community relations, media relations, digital and business strategies, preferably in a health care system. The position reports to the CEO and is a member of the MVHS executive leadership team, working with service line managers and other stakeholders to ensure that all marketing and communications initiatives are aligned and support the strategic goals of the organization.
This position manages all internal and external communications, directs and manages the creation of content for all media, including publications and oversees content and design for the internal and external websites. The Vice President Communications and Marketing serves as the corporation’s spokesperson to the community and the media and as the Public Information Officer on the Emergency Management Team.
This position will be broadly responsible for the following deliverables:
Regularly developing and placing proactive, positive media stories, while also managing reactive or crisis communication needs.
Developing / maintaining positive relationships with local broadcast and print media representatives.
Developing materials needed in print, online, digital, electronic, video, blog and web medium.
Managing social media and digital communities via regular, active posts and information sharing. Monitoring and responding when needed to drive community engagement and service recovery.
Using market research to drive decision making relative to marketing initiatives. Documenting performance goals and monitor measures of success.
Evaluating and staying current on public policies and legislative activities related to healthcare.
Supporting the culture and customer service initiatives of the organization.
Working with services and facilities to design and implement prospective and client contact system.
Supporting community outreach and promotional activities, and working collaboratively with groups within the organization and in the community.
Representing the company at community meetings, serving as a principal representative of the organization, maintaining and developing relations with key external contacts and the community at large.
Creating effective presentations to various stakeholders including physicians, senior leadership, governance, and external constituents.
Defining, designing and implementing data analysis, social media, and web design elements
Strategic problem-solving with strong interpersonal skills including the ability to be a key influencer with leadership and medical staff.
Demonstrating success with employee and leadership engagement communications and developing effective internal communication programs; writing press releases, feature stories and marketing presentations.
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration or related field. Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or Business Administration is strongly preferred.
3 to 5 years of progressive leadership experience in marketing, corporate communications and public/media relations including a solid understanding of digital technology, industry trends and overall knowledge of media landscape. Healthcare experience highly preferred.
Previous senior executive experience with demonstrated executive presence and professional demeanor preferred.
Strong work experience in driving the communication strategy in a fast paced environment.
Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders to develop marketing plans and service line development initiatives to support new and existing business in accordance with the organization’s strategic plan.
Highly organized and detail-oriented with excellent project management skills.
Ability to lead teams from a variety of backgrounds and professions.
Excellent oral and written communication skills including creative approaches to internal and external marketing and communication platforms.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel and Power Point.
Experience with Adobe In Design preferred.
