The Director, Athletics Communications oversees the media relation responsibilities for all of FGCU’s 15 Division I programs. Serves as the primary contact for MBB and other selected teams TBD. Coordinates and directs the athletics communications staff. Coordinates all athletic publications including, but not limited to, media guides, game programs, game notes, feature stories, and game caps ensuring accuracy and appropriateness of information. Manages FGCU Athletics’ social media platforms. Serves as the contact for local, regional, and national TV and radio contracts.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Sports Management, Communication, Journalism, or related field.
Four years of professional full-time athletics communications related experience in Division I intercollegiate athletics (media, publicity).
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Sports Management, Communication, Journalism, or related field.
Four years of full-time professional basketball related experience in NCAA Division I.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of rules and statistics for each sport.
Knowledge and skill in publication production and journalism.
Working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics and NCAA rules and compliance as it pertains to media and publicity at the Division I level.
Knowledge of and ability to use desktop publishing software.
Knowledge of ESPN and other event production platforms.
Strong computer skills and proficiency with word-processing, database software, web site design and maintenance, and familiarity with statistics software.
Demonstrated social media use/knowledge.
Demonstrated successful supervisory and management skills.

Essential Job Duties
•Oversees the media relations’ efforts for all 15 Division I programs. Coordinates and directs the athletics communications staff. Coordinates all athletic publications including, but not limited to, media guides, game programs, game notes, feature stories, and game recaps, ensuring accuracy and appropriateness of information.
•Manages the use of social media (Facebook, Twitter) by FGCU athletics, but also educates and monitors student-athletes on social media. Ensures that FGCU’s official website, ****is up-to-date and accurate at all times.
•Supervises and coordinates the maintenance of accurate athletics communications files on all current and past sports teams, individuals, and coaches. Maintains current team and individual statistics.
•Supervises and maintains an up-to-date photo, slide, and film files. Coordinates activities surrounding home athletic contests including the hosting of visiting media. Organizes and supervises required statisticians and the staffing for home events.
•Responds to requests from opponents’ athletics communications offices and media. Coordinates advancing and staffing of away athletic events. Issues media credentials. Coordinates communication to various media to report on event/contest results.
•Promotes post-season honors for outstanding athletes, coaches, and administrators. Serves as media liaison to A-Sun and CCSA conferences and NCAA offices. Recommends fiscal requirements for the Athletics Communications office. Prepares budget recommendations and monitors expenses. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described.
• Serves as the contact for local, regional, and national TV and radio contracts. Approves Expenditures. Develops budget recommendations. Prepares budget requests or written narrative. Responsible for managing the Athletics Communications budget. Responsible for proper handling of University funds as it pertains to ethical and budgetary issues.
•Complies with all University, Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN), or Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) regulations, as well as all NCAA rules and regulations. Remains current with all changes in NCAA, as well as changes to University, Atlantic Sun Conference, and CCSA rules and regulations regarding intercollegiate athletics. This includes the requirement for self-reporting any possible rule violations. Any violation of NCAA rules is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
