Job Description
Basic Function
To establish and maintain internal communication strategies such as employee communication platforms and team building activities to foster employee morale
Example Of Duties
Establishes and implements internal communication strategies
Drafts messages or scripts from senior executives for presentations to employees in written, spoken, and video format
Ensures organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders
Plans, edits, and writes content for a variety of internal communication mediums, including the staff intranet and production of informational, educational, and enlightening videos
Creates shareable content appropriate for specific networks so employees can help spread messages, content, and links
Listens and engages in relevant social discussion with employees
Utilizes social media to communicate with staff internally
Delivers presentations at organizational events, such as road shows or visits to divisions
Plans, prepares, and oversees the design and execution of print and electronic content for Metro staff
Ensures consistent design guidelines across all web, internal, and external printed materials and platforms
Participates in the development and implementation of employee morale and team building activities
Ensures internal communication messages are consistent across all mediums for internal departments within the organization
Ensures external communication messages are consistent across all mediums
Listens to and responds to feedback from staff and adjusts communication content accordingly
Handles the internal communication response to crisis situations which affect organizational perception and the reputation of Metro
Develops and monitors project plans, budgets, and costs for internal communication programs
Coordinates and manages a matrixed team of agency reporters
Assists in developing annual strategic public relations plans
Supervises subordinate staff
Communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures in support of the agency's safety vision and goals; and maintains accountability for the safety performance of all subordinate employees
Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out
Requirements For Employment
Bachelor's degree - Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or other related field
3 years' senior-level experience performing work in public relations or communications programs
Valid California Class C driver license
Experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis
Preferred Qualifications:
Training and experience utilizing SharePoint 365
Experience writing content for the web and social media
Master's degree in a related field is desirable
Public relations or communications experience within the transportation industry is highly desirable
Knowledge:
Theories, principles and practices of communications including digital media and public relations
Mass communication techniques and program management
Proofreading symbols and terminology
Electronic media materials and processes, including photographic, video, and graphic media; copy writing; and script-writing
Modern management theory
Abilities:
Oversee the operations of large-scale communications programs and projects
Journalistically source stories from employees utilizing excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
Create effective content through expert knowledge of digital communications platforms
Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, budgets, contracts and labor/management agreements
Manage multiple projects independently
Compile, analyze and interpret complex data
Communicate effectively orally and in writing
Mediate and negotiate
Represent Metro before the public and governmental entities
Prepare comprehensive reports and correspondence
Analyze situations, identify problems, recommend solutions and evaluate outcome
Exercise judgment and creativity in making decisions
Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees, outside representatives and public officials
Travel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe
Supervise subordinate staff
Read, write, speak and understand English
