The job

The Strategic Communication Specialist brings innovative and creative thinking to SCAN’s corporate communications strategy, ensuring internal and external communication efforts are coordinated, consistent with the SCAN brand, effective, and achieve the desired outcome.

You will

Serve as the day-to-day liaison with the PR agency, providing strategic input and creative perspective. Identify company programs/initiatives/activities that support brand messaging and provide information to PR agency.

Review recommendations, vet media opportunities and arrange for appropriate spokespeople.

Develop and/or review all content and move it through approval channels, including legal and compliance when required.

Track and report on PR/media activities on a regular basis, developing and maintaining a dashboard for reference by management.

Develop a social media strategy for each of the identified platforms, managing content calendars, creating content, cultivating stakeholder communities where appropriate and supporting positive brand awareness. LinkedIn – leverage PR activities for corporate page and provide recommended content for key executives.

Twitter – identify desired audience, define goals and objectives for follower growth.

Facebook – maintain corporate page and oversee IAH page transition; respond to comments, reviews and messages in a timely manner, involving other departments when necessary.

Yelp – respond to reviews in a timely manner, involving other departments when necessary.

Monitor other platforms for opportunities.

Develop corporate communication materials both proactively and upon request. Collaborate with P&GA staff to identify communication opportunities and develop supporting materials.

Identify communication gaps and opportunities and propose solutions.

Collaborate on annual community report and related materials.

Maintain up-to-date press kit materials digitally, in print, and on the SCAN website, including executive bios, fact sheets, and article links/reprints

Contribute to employee engagement by planning and implementing an internal communications program that includes: Monthly employee newsletter as well as ad hoc communications

Promotion of regular events (Coffee with Chris, Straight Talks, etc.)

Creative support for special events

Collaborating with Human Resources and other departments to capture and reflect priorities

Researching and recommending other activities, modes and mediums to improve communication within the organization.

Work closely with internal team and outside vendors to meet agreed-upon project timelines.

Participate on cross-functional teams, providing communication leadership and maintaining collegial, collaborative relationships at all levels within the organization.

Ensure that all communications are factually accurate, consistent with the SCAN voice, reflect professional editorial practices and adhere to regulatory requirements. Understand relevant regulations (e.g., CMS, DHCS), collaborate with the Compliance and Legal departments and submit copy for Legal and Compliance review when required.

Work closely with management to meet strategic objectives, project goals and deadlines. Provide concise project updates and progress reports for all assigned projects.

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing and contributing to professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Job Requirements

Your qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Marketing, or related field of study.

7 Years relevant experience in public relations and/or corporate communications.

Demonstrated experience in primary social media platforms.

Strong copywriting and content creation skills

Outstanding written and verbal skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint

Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and demonstrate excellent organizational skills including working under deadline pressure and extra hours if needed on assignments.

Ability to work with minimal supervision and ability to meet deadlines consistently without sacrificing quality is a must. 

Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong organizational skills; Ability to multitask.

Ability to appropriately maintain confidentiality.

Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, required.

Preferred Qualifications

SharePoint Experience

Experience in the consumer healthcare, Medicare Advantage or other highly regulated category preferred.
