The Public Relations & Communications Manager (CSG) plays an important role in advancing and communicating enterprise clinical strategies and the enterprise clinical agenda, in coordination with the HCA Strategic Agenda. This role advances HCA’s overall reputation through planning, creation, and delivery of internal and external clinical communications. Supports the office of the President of Clinical Services and CMO by providing expert synthesis and presentation of a broad range of clinical data and information, as well as health policy issues, to various audiences. Demonstrates mastery in the language of nursing, medicine and pharmacology and has the ability to create meaningful communication to both medical constituencies as well as translate key data elements for lay audiences.
• Prepare local and national presentations at the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, transforming raw clinical data and outcomes into concise material.
• Develops, writes and/or edits speeches, briefings, and other communications for CMO
• Translates ideas, objectives, corporate position, and management philosophy into messaging that relates to the topic, speaker, and intended audience.
• Manages all aspects of speaking engagements on behalf of the Chief Medical Officer, from content development to logistics, attending to details to proactively prepare CMO for such engagements and to ensure seamless execution.
• Promotes strong partnerships with all stakeholders both internal and external to HCA.
• Collaborates with clinical and operational leaders to gain mastery of content for publication or presentation.
• Provides direct support of any and all external communication in the areas supported by Clinical Services Group.
• Assures compliance with HCA ethical standards in materials and position papers created.
• Maintains knowledge of new evidence, medical advancements, and existing evidence gaps.
• May be required to spend significant time with CMO to understand thought process and individual speaking voice in order to re-create distinct voice within the written speech.
• May be required to research multiple topics, such as major political issues and demographic trends, and use that research to write speeches that focus on specific topics to engage audiences.
• May be required to work within tight deadlines, and may require travel with CMO.
Proficiency with authoring, researching, repurposing content, and interacting with many people and projects simultaneously. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated and self-directed, an expert time manager, skilled interviewer, and have mastered the ability to translate technical / clinical specifics into meaningful content.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including:
o Speechwriting
o Writing and editing copy
• Experience in marketing and/or public relations, particularly in a healthcare setting
• Sophisticated skills and experience in using presentation and/or design software
• Excellent relationship and time management skills
• Bachelor’s degree in clinical field (e.g. Nursing, Pharmacy, Allied Health, or other clinical or healthcare) required.
• Advanced degree with concentration in public policy, public relations, journalism, and/or communications preferred
• 5 years experience working in related field (healthcare public relations, healthcare policy, medical writing)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Periodic travel may be required.
