Position Summary

Internal Communications, a function of Global Communications &

Public Affairs (GCPA), is charged with enterprise-wide, internal communications

for Marriott International, including amplification of Marriott’s corporate

storytelling through an agile and integrated platform that includes social and digital

distribution channels. The internal communications team is responsible for the strategy,

creation, and overall management and delivery of a portfolio of enterprise-wide

communications programs and channels that is designed to educate, engage, and

excite Marriott associates globally, while also continuing to advance the Company’s

culture and values.


Staff Writer is responsible for executing

the enterprise-wide communications strategy by developing and drafting

communication materials for internal distribution. This position works with stakeholders within

the Company to identify key announcements and messages and creates content for

these messages, including writing the message, securing images, and occasionally supporting the production and

distribution of other mediums, such as video. The position supports the

distribution of that content through Marriott’s internal communications

vehicles (e.g., Headline News, MI Pulse, Digital Boards, Marriott Global Source

(MGS), Heart of the House). Additionally, this position will support key

associate engagement activations and communications programs, ensuring they accurately

and consistently convey and affirm the company’s key messages and goals.

Expected Contributions

The primary

responsibilities of this position include:

Drafts and writes content for articles to be included in HeadlineNews, MI Pulse, Heart of the House website, and other internal communicationsvehicles, as needed. Obtains necessary reviews, approvals, and copyrights, whenappropriate.

Researches content materials and develops concepts and messages aswell as drafts copy, edits, and proofreads content.

Supports the maintenance of the appropriate distribution lists forcommunication vehicles, as needed.

Creates, plans, and executes communications strategies toeffectively disseminate key messages.

Supports the Senior Writer in drafting internal announcements, asneeded. Creates alignment by taking concepts/ideas from various stakeholdersand creating visually compelling content.

Manages the development of content to be posted on MarriottInternational’s seven (7) corporate digital boards located at MIHQ, Stamford,and MI LAB/NYC. Refresh messaging and maintain the digital board editorialcalendar.

Monitors and responds to emails received inthe Headline News, MI Pulse, Digital Boards, and Heart of the House groupmailboxes, daily. Research responses in partnership with other departments, asappropriate.

Builds relationships proactively with key associates/stakeholdersand participates in events throughout the company. Maintains relationships witha variety of internal and external resources for news and data regardingindustry, company, investor relations, legislation, social impact, diversity,etc.

Responsible for process improvement by actively seeking user andcustomer feedback.

Supports the Internal Communications team with design andproduction of key communications programs and their supporting assets (e.g.,Senior Leadership Forums).

Recommends to department leaders how to evolve communication vehiclesas well as associate engagement activities to help optimize communicationsflow, message integration, and delivery platforms as well as to grow readership/followers.

Proactively attends Editorial Board meetings for the internalcommunications channels and provides ideas and suggestions for related work.Ensures recommendations are implemented on time and on budget.

Supports the facilitation of measurement activities on internalcommunications channels (e.g., readership rates, feedback, anecdotal takeaways)and analysis of the results.

Works on special content projects and other duties, as assigned.

Requirements for Position


should possess knowledge and experience as well as demonstrate strong

leadership and relationship skills as follows:

Minimum of five(5) years of experience in internal communications, journalism or publicrelations. Travel, or hospitality or background preferred.

Strong written and verbal communications skills; ability topresent ideas and information in a concise, organized manner, with excellenttime management skills.

Relevant experience on a large-scale global technology-relatedsystems and projects

Good organizational, time-management, and project managementskills. Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced, changingenvironment

Strong written, verbal, and listening skills; effective knowledgeof English usage, punctuation, and grammar, with an emphasis on writing andeditorial skills and formats.

Ability to write internal communications content includingarticles, statements and executive messages.

Demonstrated understanding of the digital/social landscape.

Experience managing an editorial calendar and successfully drivinga content plan.

Excellent judgment, critical thinking, and decision-makingcapabilities.

Natural curiosity about the company and industry that leads tocreative thinking about communications topics and engagement strategies.

Results-driven strategic thinker. Ability to think holistically;identify and prioritize key opportunities; and, implement change expediently.

Ability tointeract effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization andwork effectively with outside resources. Ability to work independently and aspart of a team.

Proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe CreativeCloud, and other relevant software.

Education: Bachelor’s

degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or marketing required.

Master’s degree a plus.
