Blaming a bad economy, the Seneca Nation has decided to halt construction of its casino in Buffalo.
The $333 million project was hampered by a nonstop cash demand, threats of competition, and of course, a slow area economy.
But District Judge William Skretny pushed a ruling that would force the federal commission to shut down the operation. As a result of the ruling, gambling has been deemed illegal on the site.
The Seneca casino was the largest public building project ever in the Buffalo area, and would have created roughly 1,000 jobs there.
Seneca Gaming spokesman Phil Pantano said the move was not permanent, but he could not define when or if construction would resume.
