Advertising PR Jobs
Advertising PR Jobs require public relations specialists to handle media relations regarding the local community, industry, and government relations. They have to establish a good working relationship with the local journalists, from both the print and broadcast media.
Almost all Advertising PR Jobs require the public relations specialists to create and send press releases to the local media. Candidates involved in Advertising PR Jobs also have to create awareness campaigns about their companies from time to time and do damage control in case of some controversy. In government offices, the term for public relations specialists is press secretaries. Their salaries are less compared to private sector but the work is considered more stable.
The work environment can be stressful in times because of project deadlines and major campaigns. Although most individuals work 40 hour weeks, overtime is frequent. Public relations specialists have to be on call all the time, especially during a crisis.
In terms of educational requirements, most employers today prefer at least a bachelor’s degree in a communications-related field, preferably with an emphasis in public relations. But internships are the key to getting into this industry. Most of the internships are unpaid but necessary for the resume. In 2008, there were 275,000 public relations specialists. The median salary was $51,000.
