Media PR Jobs are jobs that are done by public relations specialists whose daily tasks include interacting with the media, local communities, the company’s target audience, conflict mediation as well as work on investor relations.
Even government organizations have media PR jobs openings where the public relations specialists are usually referred to as press secretaries. Their main job is to keep the public aware of all the activities and other work being done by the organization. The pay in private sector for media PR jobs is better but most professionals are expected to put in more than 40 hours a week and the work schedules can be irregular.
In terms of educational requirements, most employers today prefer at least a bachelor’s degree in a communications-related field, preferably with an emphasis in public relations. But internships are the key to getting media PR jobs. Most of the internships are unpaid but are necessary for the resume. In 2008, there were 275,000 public relations specialists. The median salary was $51,000.
