Description

The Senior Corporate Communications Professional develops, implements, and manages communication strategies that enhance and elevate the Humana Foundation and Humana Inc. among external and internal audiences such as news media, communities (e.g., consumers, investees, beneficiaries, etc.), influential thought leaders, health care providers, employers, Humana associates and others. This individual develops the Foundation's communications strategy in partnership with the Foundation's leadership and aligned to the Foundation's priorities. Makes decisions on moderately complex to complex issues regarding technical approach for project components, and work is performed without direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.

Responsibilities

In addition, the Senior Communications Professional will:

Advise and support Humana Foundation on communications strategy

Partner with Foundation staff, board members and grantees, facilitate creation of an overall Foundation communications plan and specific communications goals for the next 2-3 years.

Work with Foundation CEO and program staff to identify and advance the Foundation's overarching goals and priority focus areas via strategic communications.

Collaborate with grantees on how to share their activities and accomplishments; be a resource to grantees on their own communications efforts.

Develop and edit content for external communications

Work with the CEO and program staff to write and edit a variety of content to help the Foundation communicate effectively, and in ways that reflect its core values. This includes external content such as website and digital media, newsletters, talking points, presentations, articles and publications.

Implement the Foundation's digital media strategy

Develop and regularly publish web and social media content that clearly articulates the Foundation's strategic framework, overarching goal and funding strategies, elevates issues of importance to the Foundation, highlights grantees and their work, and shares what we are learning with relevant audiences.

Maintain and regularly update the Foundation's website.

Develop strategies for the Foundation to monitor and constructively engage in relevant online conversations, and advise and support program staff on use of digital media tools.

Explore and pursue opportunities to engage with colleagues at peer foundations to learn and share effective digital communications strategies

Carry out communications administrative and related functions

Coordinate relationships with Humana Inc. corporate communications, communications consultants and vendors.

Build, maintain, and enhance Foundation contact and distribution lists.

Develop and maintain photographs, videos and graphics that represent the Foundation's and grantees' work.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field of marketing, communications

5 or more years of experience in communications strategy, media (reporting/editing/on-air) , digital and public relations

Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving and sustaining positive health outcomes for communities and individuals

Experience in a foundation/nonprofit or organizational setting with relevance to the Foundation's mission, along with evidence of increasing responsibilities and achievements

Excellent verbal and written communications skills

Strong analytical skills and the ability to learn and synthesize new information quickly

Strong interpersonal and team skills with experience in building relationships with a wide variety of people

Openness, curiosity, and ability to thrive in a start-up environment

Preferred Qualifications

Proven ability to create comprehensive communications and media strategies encompassing content and insight from multiple domains (e.g., Government Relations, Corporate Communications, Public Affairs and Investor Relations)
