The work environment can be stressful in times of project deadlines and major campaigns. Although most individuals work 40 hour per week, overtime is frequent. Traveling to different markets is also part of the job.
In terms of educational requirements, most employers today prefer at least a bachelor’s degree in a communications-related field, preferably with an emphasis in public relations. But internships are the key to getting marketing PR jobs. Most of the internships are unpaid but are necessary for the resume. In 2008, there were 275,000 public relations specialists. The median salary was $51,000.
